About the Great Library(For library hours and contact information, see below.) In the ancient world, it was the legendary Library at Alexandria. From the Middle Ages until the start of the twentieth century, it was the Bodleian library at Oxford, and soon the mantle passed to the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. But for the new millennium, a new library had to assume the title of World’s Greatest. And while we don’t mean to slight our very worthy colleagues, we also must be fair to ourselves and acknowledge that we have surpassed them, at least a little. As Isaac Newton said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.” But, in all seriousness, we hope you enjoy your visit to The Great Library Website, and we hope you’ll supplement this visit with a trip down to see us.
