Mission:

The mission of the Library of the Pacific Northwest is to provide a
central location for research on various Pacific Northwest
topics. Through the collaboration of the
participating organizations we have brought together
a wide range of resources both
onsite, online and accessible through this consortium. This site provides
a portal to the catalogs of the participating organizations and has a growing
collection onsite of relevant materials gathered by independent donors as well
as transfers from these collaborating
partners. Through these efforts and the resulting consolidation
of all types of materials in one location, the research conducted
on Pacific Northwest issues will be greatly facilitated and encourage
further exploration of topics by all levels of scholars.

History of the organization:
The Library of the Pacific Northwest was founded
in March of 2006 in response to a web design project within the Catholic University
of America Masters in Library and
Information Science program. This Library concept was developed by a student
to provide an example of a special library that can function independently
as well as with the other relevant agencies within the
historical field to facilitate research and knowledge disemination.
Hopefully this example of uniting libraries towards
a common end will inspire further collaboration efforts by
various organizations with the ultimate benefit of
providing greater information services to their community
and helping to establish and encourage a wider knowledge
base on historical topics across the globe.
