Selection resources
Materials selected for the library collection are considered by the professional library staff with due regard to suggestions from the school’s faculty, parents and students. Professionally recognized reviewing periodicals, standard catalogs and other aids are used as selection guides. Final selection is made by the librarian. There are a number of literary evaluation tools that are recognized for their superior assessment of children’s books. Among them are the Coretta Scott-King Award, The Newberry and the Caldecott medals. Each year each of these boards reads, evaluates and chooses the best in the genre. The following sites explain
the way their books are chosen. Coretta
